Tired of the same-old tunes on the radio? Then check out LIGHTS, a Canadian electro-pop singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. In addition to writing, producing, and performing her own music, the 21-year-old also designs her own artwork including the self-portrait on the cover of her debut EP. On her “About Me” section of her MySpace page, LIGHTS describes her music as “happy.” “When I write songs I think about how my music makes people feel, and I hope that when it goes into your ears you feel happy,” says LIGHTS. “If I’m sad then the last thing I want is to be made even more sad by music.” Her new single, “Drive My Soul,” showcases her unique style and soft, yet piercing voice. The futuristic music video for her song can be viewed at her MySpace page. Although you may not yet recognize LIGHTS by name, some of her songs might sound familiar and leave you wondering, “Where have I heard that before?” Remember how Old Navy helped Ingrid Michaelson rise to fame when their commercials featured her catchy song “The Way I Am”? Well, four of LIGHTS’ songs off of her EP were used in Old Navy’s ’08 spring ad campaign. “Drive My Soul” was also featured on MTV’s “The Hills.” Because of her distinct voice, LIGHTS has gathered a big following on the Internet as well. Each of her songs has been listened to over two million fans. Go and check out LIGHTS for yourself at one of her many tour dates. She will be performing at the Vans Warped Tour this summer.
